TOUR LOCATION

Arusha, Tanzania

[vc_empty_space height="27px"] Arusha, called "A- Town" by the locals, is situated at the foot of Mount Meru, Africa's 5th highest mountain. The altitude gives the city a pleasant climate and lush green environment.  It's a gateway to safari destinations and to Africa's highest peak, 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro, lying some 100 kilometers northeast. To the west lies Serengeti National Park, home to wildlife including lions, rhinoceros, giraffes and leopards. The temperature in Arusha in January is about 27C and it only rains about 7 days in the month.   Kiswahili is the language spoken most in Arusha (swahili are the people), along with English. Local Tanzanian currency is the Tanzanian shilling, though most places will also accept US dollars.  1USD = 2,300TSH 1CAD = 1,750TSH. There are ATMS at the Kilimanjaro airport as well as in Arusha that accept Mastercard and VISA and disperse TSH.  Only major restaurants and hotels accept credit cards.

Dare Women’s Foundation

[vc_empty_space height="24px"] The Dare Women's Foundation is an NGO working to empower Tanzanian women and girls, with a focus on rural areas, through poverty alleviation, social justice, economic empowerment, and gender equality. Executive Director and Founder, Maggie passionately empowers women to become strong leaders through feminine hygiene care, entrepreneurship, nutrition education, sport and conservation programs and we are thrilled to be partnering with her to support the work she does.   On this trip we will be working with Dare on a project to help build a community home for those needing safe shelter and support.  We will be working alongside the women of Dare and learning more about all of the projects they are engaged with.   Many of the women Dare works with have endured tragedies such as rape, discrimination, domestic violence. Most all of them deal with lack of feminine hygiene care, little nutrition and conservation education, young marriage, and large family size due to lack of contraception and sex education. By bringing these women together, educating them about their rights, giving them a voice, and supporting them in their endeavors, the Dare Women's Foundation is changing Tanzania one woman at a time.  We are excited to partner with Dare for this project, learn more about what their plans and needs are, and then support them in a long-term capacity.

The Kilimanjaro Climb

[vc_empty_space height="24px"] The best way to knock Kilimanjaro off of your bucket list is alongside 14 other incredible changemakers and with an emotional framework of coaching and support to help you on the journey.  For our Kilimanjaro summit we will be using Wild Africa and Beyond as our guides, with Yusuf as our leader, who has over 18+ years of experience and has summited Kilimanjaro over 173 times. We will be taking the Machame 7 day route to ensure we all have the best chance of acclimatizing.   The Machame Route is approaching the summit through the forest from the west and joins the other trekking routes before traversing beneath the southern ice fields of Kibo. The rainforest is extremely beautiful. This route is a best choice for people who want to enjoy a scenic hike on a challenging route. It is popularly known as the Whiskey route, begins at Kilimanjaro climbing Machame Gate, and we will be taking 7 days for the best acclimatization. The machame route is located in the southern base of mountain, within its green, abundant rainforest. You don’t have to be a mountain climber, a professional athlete, or even an avid exerciser to climb Kili. You do, however, have to be healthy and in good physical and mental condition. And you have to be honest with yourself.
